Lost and Found Paws
If you know of an animal that is missing or has been found in your community, consider creating a listing with the pets image and any information that you may have.

1. Act fast - Do not delay in your efforts. The first moments are the most important.
2. Start a search - Start with the inside of your surroundings. Take a flash light and treat bag with you while you check every nook and cranny. Be sure to check under beds, in closets, under sofas, and even in the basement.
3. Move outside - Start calling your pet's name. Take items with you that you think your pet will respond to, like a box of treats being shaken or a squeak toy being squeezed. Talk to your neighbours and ask them for permission to search their property. Get as much help as you possible to aide you in your search. Start searching the neighbourhood outward from your house to cover as much ground as possible.
4. If you still haven't found your pet, make and post flyers around your neighbourhood to alert people of your missing pet. Continue to search in an outward circle. Talk to everyone you can!
5. Check our Lost and Found Paws section - Post your pets picture with all the details right here on our site. Consider offering a reward (don't disclose an amount). If someone has found your pet, be sure to meet in a public place to make the transaction.
6. Get on the phone - Call the local vets, shelters, and humane societies to disperse and collect information regarding your pet. Double check your pet ID records for accurate information.
7. - Give your pet the best possible means to find their home. Place items that have their scent on it outside your home.
8. - Stay positive, be thorough, and never give up!
What to do if you find a lost pet
1. Proceed with caution. Talk in a low voice, try food or a toy to get the animal to come to you. Secure the animal in a safe place like a pet carrier, fenced in back yard, or a large box with plenty of ventilation.
2. If you can, take a photo of you with the animal and post it on Help Save Paws' Lost and Found Paws section. Include as many details about the pet as you can.
3. Check your neighbourhood for lost pet signs or flyers. Also look for anyone that may be searching for their pet.
4. If you still haven't found the owner, call local shelters to see if someone is searching for a lost pet. Ask the staff what their policy is for accepting a lost pet. Specifically ask about "no kill" shelters. We support these!
5. If you take a pet to a shelter, follow up with that shelter to see if the pet has been found. If not, please consider donating your time or money to help them. Thank you!
